Why does the Pope have to speak Latin when originally Christians spoke the Semitic language?
Originally, during Jesus’ time most people in the middle east (the place where Jesus lived) spoke the Semitic language. Especially Aramaic, which is similar to Arabic, so the language that Muslim religious leaders speak are more accurate than the pope’s. On my opinion, I think it doesn’t matter what language you speak to god, just as long as your praying. But, all I want to know is why does the people of the roman catholic church have to speak Latin?

The key is in the word "Roman" Catholic. The Vatican is a Roman place so they speak Latin. It’s that simple.

It’s curious, though, that for centuries, Latin was considered a "holy" language. It was just until recently that Catholic churches started doing their Mass in local languages rather than Latin.

Catholicism is a merger of Christianity and the Roman culture. Scholars explain that the Roman culture did have a huge influence on Christianity. In fact, Christianity was modified to fit the Roman empire!

 Abu Ahmad | Dec 14, 2008

Christianity was adopted by the Roman Empire as the State religion. The Romans spoke Latin. When the Romans conquered other lands, they took their language and religion with them.
Sldgman | Dec 11, 2008

 Good question:

Latin is the language of the Church and has been for approximately 1800 years. Before that time the language used was usually Koine Greek in the Church. In Jerusalem in the first century most people spoke Greek, Latin and Aramaic. In the beginning Koine Greek was the language of scholars but later Latin took its place with the growing influence of the Roman Empire. God bless!

Into this world enters John Creasy, a burned-out ex-CIA operative/assassin, who has given up on life. Creasy’s friend Rayburn brings him to Mexico City to be a bodyguard to nine-year-old Pita Ramos, daughter of industrialist Samuel Ramos and his wife Lisa. Creasy is not interested in being a bodyguard, especially to a youngster, but for lack of something better to do, he accepts the assignment. Creasy barely tolerates the precocious child and her pestering questions about him and his life. But slowly, she chips away at his seemingly impenetrable exterior, his defenses drop, and he opens up to her. Creasy’s new-found purpose in life is shattered when Pita is kidnapped. Despite being seriously wounded during the kidnapping, he vows to kill anyone involved in or profiting from the kidnapping. And no one can stop him.

Should I break up AFTER 7 YEARS!!!!? Please HELP!!!!!!!!!?
I met my girlfriend in high school 7 years ago (When she was 18 years old), around the second month that we were dating I was told by one of her family members that my girlfriend dated her cousin-husband..As soon as I had an option I ask my girlfriend about it and she started crying and told me that she made a huge mistake when she was 17 years old… she said to me that she got caught with a cell-phone that was given to her by her cousin-husband so that they could send each other messages, I asked Claudia if this guy had ever forced her to do something or if this guy had ever touch her… Claudia’s response at the time was NO. Due to her response, I though that this guy had only tried to get her to do things, but that nothing had happen between them, so I decided to move on and forget about it.

Problem is that now…After dating for 6 years and living together with Claudia for 5 years (even buying a house together) I asked her more information about what had happened in her past hoping that she would answer me the same way she did 7 years ago, but unfortunately, she said to me that one day when she got off early from high school and called her cousin’s husband to hang out…which led them to a hotel room where he had oral sex with her. Apparently, the guy tried to do more things with her, but she stopped him and put her clothes back on. I asked Claudia why she didn’t tell me truth 7 years ago, and she replied to me saying that she was afraid, and that at the time she didn’t trust me to tell me. I asked her why she didn’t seek for help to stop this guy, she said that she tried to so by talking to a preach whose solution was to ask her to move in with him, which hopefully didn’t happen. How am I supposed to believe that she is telling me the whole truth? Is she supposed to be blamed for her pass? I would like to move on! How can I get myself to chill out about it

Extra info:
My girlfriend (Claudia) was sent to the United States from Mexico by her parents with a temporary visa so that she could go to high-school and learn English, At first, she lived with her grandmother ,but due to Claudia’s loneliness and depression of being alone and not knowing anyone, she was removed from her grandmother’s house, and transferred to her aunt’s house who lived in Texas as well. While staying at her aunt’s house she met her cousin(Diana) who was married to a guy named Jason who was a policeman at the time. Long story short, Claudia would always go to Diana’s house to babysit Diana’s and Jason’s kids, but while being there she noticed that Diana’s husband would always try to seduce her, especially while Diana was either asleep or absent…Claudia would always reject Diana’s husband advances, but as time when by Claudia became friends with Jason and started giving in on some of this guy advances. At the time, Jason was 33 years old and Claudia 17.

As a result:
-Claudia’s mom came to Texas to tell the police about what had happen
-Jason was asked to resign to his policeman position (He wasn’t fired, and doesn’t have any criminal charges) so that means that he could get a job as a policeman anywhere else in the country, because he is not registered as a sex offender)
-Diana and Jason remain married together
-Claudia was removed from Texas and now lives somewhere else where she doesn’t have contact with any of this people.
-Claudia and myself used to get along very well.
-she states that she has moved on

I understand that I am NO ONE to judge others, but at the same time, I feel like my girlfriend has taken a huge drop in the way I see her and feel about her since the day she told me the whole truth.
1- How can I stop judging her? Should I even trust her more for being honest with me or should I just stay away from her?
2- From the man’s perspective…How would you handle this problem? Do you think its possible to move on?
3- Do you think that people have a tendency to commit the same mistake after doing it once?

PLEASE BE POLITE

Thank you for your support

I am baffled at the liberals who want to bash Palin for a few words on her hand when Obama almost always has every word of the speech on the teleprompter.

And appearances should not be a factor in politics. This was so when people were attacking John McCain for being wrinkly, or when they made snide comments about Obama’s heritage, or for when people like you try to turn being beautiful into a negative thing.

I am NOT a fan of Palin and do NOT want her to run for office again. But this is silly!

why cant i stop thinking about her?
My name is Kevin , I moved to a different part of town from where i was living and became real good friends with my next door neighbor it so happens that one day while going with my neighbor to pick up his wife at her job she was coming out with a co-worker she took initiative and introduced herself immediately something clicked, we shook hands as we both said nice to meet you and went our separate ways. On the way back home i started thinking ( you know maybe i can get to have something special with her ) i didn’t hesitate to think twice and asked all sorts of things about her , if she had a boyfriend how old she was..etc i found out she had a boyfriend but didn’t think much of it. So i told my friends wife to give her my number , she did and a week or so i received a phone call from her , seemed like we had great chemistry we talked that night for hours ,and i got curious and asked her (what about your boyfriend and she replied by saying he doesn’t have to know ) over the time our friendship developed into a no strings attached type relationship ,she would swing by after school to see me and tell her boyfriend that she was in her friends house , she would say how much she liked me and we’d talk about going out at the time i didn’t have a job so id refuse and she would always insist on paying. after a while things started to get rocky arguing (mostly on my side) and it seemed like i didn’t care much at the time , and it got to the point where we would stop talking for days on and off , with her being in school and all. we had a big fight and i decided to cut it off , time went by and we ended up talking again i recognized it was my fault. after a while we decided to go our separate ways after arguing a second time and haven’t talked since. and it seems that all i do know is think about her , being that i ended our relationship.

shes a collage student and i am a recent high school graduate , shes 21 and i am 19 .
i don’t know if its the age difference or what it was that drove us apart??

What Do YOU Think Of This Poem ……? ?
Hi~
So , this is the very first poem i ever try to write
i don’t label it anything btw. and it has no title yet {i wrote it about yesterday.}

WARNING:
This Sincerely Sucks.

can you hear them talking?
are you even here?
can you ever hear me?
cause…. it is what i fear

wish i was invisible
i don’t wanna be seen
tomorrow seemed incredible
like only in my dreams

can you hear them screaming?
do you ever see?

but the only answer
i’ll always feed it lies
suffocating by fire
the heart goes on and cries
you could call me a liar
i’ll drink down my mistakes
and be , where i will be
trying it , for the sun’s sake {o_O …stupid ..right, i know }
i hate talking about me
cause i know it’s already fake

and again……..
seriously think of my goodbyes
finding me awake
distracted b the skies

and again…..
sail back near you all
with a blank face
that’s just staring at the wall
they always said life is a race
when it’s actually a time, and a place.

 Very good.
Paul Scarlatch | Feb 04, 2010

I’m not exactly sure what you’re trying to communicate in this poem. I don’t really understand it…
LightlyBow | Feb 04, 2010

I think it’s pretty good! I like the line about "suffocating by fire the heart goes on and cries" and "I’ll drink down my mistakes."

It’s really unique and paints vivid pictures, the last two "paragraphs" I guess are my favorites, really harmonious and although I’m confused about what it’s really about, I like it a lot. (:
Peace, Love, Beatles <3 | Feb 04, 2010

it is beautiful! you should write more. I can tell that poem came from the heart.
hottiecrossing123 | Feb 04, 2010

I don’t know about the meter, and I think you need more punctuation or else its just a jumble of words with no rhythm
Weird | Feb 04, 2010

I think it’s incredibly sad! I hope you’re not a teenager in need of help.
Brendadittohead | Feb 04, 2010

 I like it (:
It has a good rhyme and rhythm!
Good work, keep on writing!
Cait | Feb 04, 2010

 i really like it..
you can totally feel what your saying.
Stephanie | Feb 04, 2010

Its good. And on that note, stop second guessing yourself. Your use of words is great. Yes, its a tiny bit rough around the edges, but nothing that can’t be fixed with ease. The self-expression that I interpreted through it is extremely deep and personal, and, in my opinion, when it comes to poetry or music, that is what really matters. As it truly is, you are writing for yourself, so stay true to that. People will interpret what you write as they see it, which may be nothing like you meant it, and that’s okay.
Live Love Die | Feb 04, 2010

 Mayday,
It is good i like it,here’s one, I like it when i’m pissed and stone and out of my tree for i don’t have to face reality.theirs more.cu.
ps,your good keep it up.
ironside | Feb 04, 2010

It’s not stupid, it doesn’t suck at all. I love it, really. If this is your first poem, than you did it!! You put nice rhymes in it. Keep up the good work!!
