Passed a cop going 41 in a 35mph zone. Will he send me a ticket in the mail?
I was going either 40-42mph in a 35mph zone and I passed a cop going the opposite way, he could’ve easily U-turned and pulled me over but he didn’t. Should I be worried about getting a ticket?
i highly doubt it dude, relax, chances are he couldn’t read your plate going that fast the other way anyway and didn’t read it in the rear view. He would’ve most likely did a u-e and pulled ya over.
Deep breath, ur not gettin a ticket.

No you can go about ten over the speed limit without getting a ticket
ben | Feb 04, 2010
Not likely,he would have flipped around and gave you a ticket.
Gaijin | Feb 04, 2010
No I think the only time you get tickets in the mail is photo radar
What | Feb 04, 2010
Nope.
If you weren’t stopped then it didn’t happen. Don’t give cops too much credit, we aren’t psychic or possess super powers. We are people with authority and neat toys. ![]()

Some times people forget that Officers have other duties besides writing tickets. Chances are he was en-route to call. You will not receive a ticket because he has not identified you. It is impossible to read a license plate in the rear-view mirror while driving, and the vehicle is traveling at 41 mph in the opposite direction. Even If he did, he did not identify you as the driver, he would only be able to identify the car. That leaves a lot of reasonable doubt in the courts eyes if he was to attempt to cite you.

Uh, no.

Probably not. Normally they will give you a ticket at the moment they see you speeding, so they probably didn’t see you. Just relax, and don’t think about it, and you will be ok.

In theory, he probably CAN send you a citation. In practice, He probably would not have given you a citation if you had passed him going the same direction, assuming it was otherwise legal to pass. If an officer intends to issue a citation for a traffic offense they actually witness, they almost always issue it in person at the time of the violation.

See Ben:
I don’t know where you got the information that you can go 10 miles over the speed limit and not get a ticket. That is completely false so anyone who knows nothing about the law; do not take that advise. You can indeed receive a ticket for going 10 miles over, but in this case. You will not receive a ticket. When you are pulled over, you have the right to see the radar that the officer clocked you on and the only time you will get a ticket in the mail is when a red light camera gets a picture of you at an intersection or elsewhere– running a red light. You can receive a ticket for not stopping for a school bus or some other form of public transportation vehicle, but I think the officer comes to your home and investigates it from that point but anyway, I digress. If he were to send you a ticket in the mail, you could easily say you were not even driving on that road and without some sort of visual proof; the officer would be at a loss… That is why you sign the ticket when you receive one on scene. Relax.. you will not be getting a ticket, but my advise to you.. slow down out there pal.
